Colposcopy is a procedure performed for women who have abnormal Pap testing. It allows us to test and then treat abnormal cells BEFORE they can turn to cancer.
Dr. Barreth works with the Alberta Cancer Board and the Alberta Cervical Screening Program to help affected women. Patients requiring colposcopy are seen in the Grande Prairie Cancer Clinic at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital.
Cervical cancer is the second most common female cancer in the world. Fortunately, with wide spread use of Pap testing in Canada, the rate of cervical cancer is already less than half of what it was in 1977.
